How it works at Reset

Cupping is part of your sports massage, not a separate treatment

You book a sports massage. Cupping is one of the tools Lloyd can use during that session, alongside hands-on massage, assisted stretching and kinesiology taping.

Book a sports massage

Choose a 60 minute (£65) or 90 minute (£90) sports massage. There is no cupping-only appointment and no separate cupping price.

Ask for cupping

Tell Lloyd at the start of your session that you would like cupping, or mention it when you message ahead. Every session also starts with an assessment of how you move and where you are restricted.

Cupping in your session

If you have asked for it, cupping is used as part of your massage, in the same session, at no extra cost. If you have not asked, Lloyd may still suggest it when it would help.

The technique

How cupping works

Almost every manual technique compresses tissue, pressing down through muscle and fascia. Cupping does the opposite. Suction lifts and decompresses the tissue, creating space between the layers that slide across each other.

That makes it genuinely useful for two situations: fascial restriction where layers have become stuck, and areas that are simply too sensitive or guarded to tolerate deep manual pressure. We mostly use dynamic (myofascial) cupping, where the cups are moved across the tissue, often while you move the limb, rather than left static.

What to expect

Does it hurt, and what about the marks?

Most people describe it as a strong pulling sensation rather than pain, and find it more comfortable than deep manual work on the same area.

The circular marks are the well-known part. They are not bruises. Bruising is blunt trauma, whereas these come from suction drawing blood towards the surface. They are painless, typically fade within three to seven days, and are worth knowing about if you have a wedding or a beach holiday in the next week. Darker marks indicate more restricted tissue, and they usually get lighter over a course of treatment.

Booking

Booking a session that includes cupping

You cannot book cupping on its own. Cupping is one of the techniques used within a sports massage session (which also draws on deep tissue work), alongside assisted stretching and kinesiology taping, and it is included at no extra cost when it is the right tool for your problem.

Book a 60 minute sports massage for £65 or a 90 minute sports massage for £90, and ask for cupping at the start of your session. As long as it is suitable for you, it will be part of your treatment. If it is not, we will tell you why and use something that is.

Can I book a cupping session on its own?

No. Cupping is not offered as a standalone treatment. It is used within a 60 or 90 minute sports massage when your assessment shows it will help.

Does cupping cost extra?

No. When cupping is used, it is part of your sports massage and included in the session price: £65 for 60 minutes or £90 for 90 minutes.

Can I ask for cupping?

Yes. Book a sports massage and tell Lloyd at the start of your session that you would like cupping. It will be included as long as it is suitable for you. Cupping is not right for everyone, for example with some skin or medical conditions, and if it is not right for you, he will explain why and use something else.
